- They are mostly found in Thar desert in Rajasthan, hence the name – Tharparkar
- Tharparkar cow is one of the top five milking cows in India
- It is also called, White Sindhi, Thari, or Cutchi
- Cattle of this breed are strongly built, medium sized, with straight limbs and good feet
- The head is medium sized, the forehead broad and flat or slightly convex above the eyes
- The eyes are full and bright with a beautiful black lining
- In males (bulls), the horns are thicker and shorter than in cows
- The hump in males is moderately well developed and firm
- The usual color of the cattle is white or gray
- The cows are very friendly to humans
- Tharparkar cow’s milk has highest nutritional value
- The cows average 138 cm in height and 350 kg in weight, while bulls are taller and much heavier.
- Milk contains average 4.4% fat and 9.0% SNF.
- Their average life span is around 25 years and yields 8-10 lit/day (2000 lit per lactation)
- They usually have 14-18 calves in their life span
- They can stand the rigors of climatic and environmental conditions
- They are resistant to several tropical diseases
- Today, only a few pure Tharparkar breed of cattle are found in the Thar desert in Rajasthan and Kutch in Gujarat, hence the need for conservation and breeding
